For this week’s post, we were tasked with making an interactive map and timeline. I made my map with StoryMapJS and my timeline with TimelineJS.

I already had experience with both of these systems, both because I work at the DKC, but also because we used them when I took HIST 299 with Dr. Ferrell. This was definitely more fun for me than it was then. Maybe that’s because I’m more familiar with it now, or maybe because it wasn’t for a major serious grade, and I could do this one on whatever I wanted. I like both of these systems a lot, they’re easy to use. If you know how to use one, you almost certainly know how to use the other.

I am frustrated by a lack of accessibility options. There are two choices for accessiblity as far as I could tell:

• High contrast, which is hidden behind a drop-down for timelines, and as far as I’m aware does not exist for maps.
• Alt text, which I only saw as an option on the timelines, and was not actually pointed to anywhere. Frankly, if I had not been looking for it, I wouldn’t have seen it.
