…I am frankly not entirely certain that I understood what I was looking at here. It was just a lot of information and I got overwhelmed pretty quick. Cora and Ben (from my devil-goat day group) tried to explain what I was looking at but I’m not sure it helped much. I did find that I was able to look back at past versions of articles as far back as 2001 (Winter War), with 2003 (Disco Demolition Night) and 2004 (Triangle Shirtwaist) being the first accessible versions of the others. It was interesting to me to see how Wikipedia manages who can and cannot edit posts, and the process each edit undergoes. I also appreciated being able to see the grading system for articles (determines who can and can’t edit) and detailed metadata as well.
2) Consider what Creative Commons License you might use for your own site. What role does copyright play in the resources you are working with this semester?
My group and I will most likely use the CC: BY-NC-SA 4.0 Creative Commons License. It protects creator credits, allows for non-commercial re-use, and ensures that any materials that are used must also be protected under identical license. Copyright is important for our project as some of our resources (images, school collections, etc) are privately owned and maintained.
